Community & Area Plans
Community and Specific Plans are adopted as amendments to the Land Use Element and/or Coastal Land Use Plan (if the applicable area is within the coastal zone) and are often used by cities and counties to plan the future of a particular area at a finer level of detail.
State law requires that all cities and counties adopt a comprehensive, long-term general plan that outlines the physical development of the county or city. The general plan must cover a local jurisdiction's entire planning area so that it can adequately address the broad range of issues associated with the city or county's development.
